Itinerary¬ (20 Nights/ 21 days)

Day 01: Dibrugarh Airport
Arrive Dibrugarh Airport and get transferred to hotel. Spend the evening at leisure. Overnight.

Day 02: Dibrugarh – Aalo (210 kms/ 6-7 hrs)
Today we will be heading to the land of the Adi tribes – one of the largest tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, a very prosperous tribe who still prefer to live in traditional broad huge houses made of wood and palm leaves with detailed architecture and designs. On arrival check into hotel. Evening time permitting visit local market. Overnight.

Aalo is set amid a brilliant surrounding laced with impenetrable forests, wide rivers, deep gorges and a wonderful plantation. Along provides a blissful ambiance. Along the headquarter of West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh located at an altitude of 300 m from the sea level. Sitting amidst abundant natural surroundings, Along in Arunachal Pradesh is a small town with beautiful villages.

The Adi tribes trace their origin from Pedong Nane. Pedong Nane was the great granddaughter of Sedi Melo the creator. The Adi is one of the important tribes of the Siang Frontier Division. The Siang Frontier Division is the home of the Adis. Racially the Adi tribes belong to the Mongoloid stock with well-built features.

Day 03: Aalo
After breakfast walk around the villages of the Adi – galong tribe. Explore the full day – the village life, local market and tribal culture and get a more in depth exposure to their culture and lifestyle. Later drive back to your hotel by dusk. Overnight.

Day 04: Aalo – Daporijo (175 kms/ 6 hrs)
After breakfast drive to Daporijo, enroute visit Hillmiri and Tagin tribes’ villages. These are the main tribes of this area. We will be spending the night in a typical Hillmiri tribal village. Overnight.

Tagin refers to a tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, which is a member of the larger designation of Tani Tribes. Most Tagins are concentrated in Daporijo, Upper Subansiri district. Tagins are generally adherents of Donyi Polo although two groups of Tagin–the Nga and Mara have come under the influence of Tibetan Buddhism. Tibetan Buddhist influence among these sections of the Tagin was a result of migration of Tibetans from the north in the 18th century as well as visits by Buddhist missionaries of the Nyingma sect who paid tribute to the chiefs as a result of Tibetan settlement in their land.

Day 05: Daporijo – Ziro (170 kms/ 6-7 hrs)
After breakfast drive to Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, inhabited by the Apatani tribes. Check into hotel/lodge on arrival. Evening at leisure. Overnight.

Ziro is home to the Apatani tribes and is located in an extremely picturesque valley called Apatani Plateau surrounded by pine-covered mountains. The Apatani tribes themselves are Ziro’s greatest attraction. The older men-folk tie the hair in top-knots and tattoo their faces. Apatani women wear wooden nose plugs and tattooed faces. However, new generation of Apatani men and women have stopped this practice of tying hair knot, nose plugs and face tattooing since early 1970s. The Apatani are good cultivators and practice both wet and terrace cultivation. Paddy cum fish culture is very popular among them.

Day 06: Ziro
After breakfast, visit villages of the Apatani tribe, to experience their way of life. Ziro is one of the most traditional areas in Arunachal Pradesh. Evening visit local market, where Apatani women bring their locally produce vegetable for sale. Overnight.

Day 07: Ziro – Itanagar
After breakfast get transferred to Itanagar. Later visit the local market and spend the evening with leisure. Overnight.

Day 08: Itanagar – Kaziranga National Park
Today after breakfast transfer to Kaziranga National Park – a World Heritage Site and home to Greater Indian One-horned Rhinoceros. Check in hotel on arrival. Evening free at leisure. Overnight.

Day 09: Kaziranga National Park
Early morning go for a jeep safari inside the park. Rich in birdlife, these wetlands are among the most productive habitats around. With packed breakfast go for a jeep safari in the park. Return to your resort for lunch. Post lunch take another jeep safari inside another range of the park. Return to your lodge by dusk. Evening at leisure. Overnight.

This World Heritage site hosts two-thirds of the world’s Great One-horned rhinoceros also known for the highest density of tigers among the protected areas in the world and of course swamp deer (barasingha), Elephant and wild water buffalos too. The rhinos generally mind their own business and munch absentmindedly on the grass, only moving off when you come in for a closer look. They are prone to doing funny and inexplicable things. Even showier are the birds, Kaziranga harbors several large, easily-visible species, Adjutant storks, bar-headed geese and eagles of all varieties stand elegantly in shallow ponds, posture regally upon bare branches and circles above with languorous ease. You find committees of vultures feasting on carcasses, a few among them standing with bored or stated expressions. You might find an otter doing a very bad job of fishing, plunging in and out of the water until a tormented fish jumps out, only to land in the waiting beak of a fishing pond heron. Elsewhere, you hear bands of Alexandrian parakeets go pop-crackle-crunch on richly –endowed berry trees.

Day 10: Kaziranga National Park – Majuli (150 km/ 2.5 hrs + 01 hr in ferry)
After breakfast drive to Majuli Island, take a ferry to Majuli Island by crossing the mighty Brahmaputra River. This Island is the largest inhabited river island in the world and the seat of Vaishnavite culture in Assam. The great 15th century Assamese reformer and saint, Shankardeva had come down here and set up ‘satras’ or Vaishnavite monasteries to make the people motivated towards culture and religion. Check in lodge on arrival. Evening free at leisure. Overnight.

Majuli is the World’s Biggest River Island and India’s first island district holding the heart core culture of the Assamese people the “Neo-Vaishnavite” religion and culture preserved in the Monasteries (Satras), the Auni-ati, Kamalabari, Dakhinpat, Garmur, Samaguri, Bengena-ati and the Natun-Kamalabari satras. The Satras are safe-keeping the culture and the ideology of the Great Assamese medieval Vaishnavaite Saint Srimanta Sankardeva and Madhavdeva, it is also an institute that is preaching and imparting knowledge to students of their age-old customs, rituals, culture and many more. You may also get the chance to interact with the monks, their culture, their traditional and ceremony, masks those are used in the drama describing the Hindu mythological stories known as the “Vawna”. There are antiques like the potteries, utensils, jewellery, weapons and other items that hold the cultural significance of Assam.

Day 11: Majuli
After a leisurely breakfast, visit the Vaishnavite Satras (Monastery). Interact with the Monk, walk around the village, see and experience the lifestyle of villager to learn more about the local people and their unique ways of life. Later visit nearby another village of Mising Tribe – this tribe, indigenous to Assam, has a rich culture of textile, handloom and music. Walk through the villages where you can see Mising women weaving their traditional fabrics and observe village lifestyle at close quarters. You might come across open grassland where a shepherd is tending his cows and goats, villagers working in their paddy fields and vast greenery as far as you can see. Return to your lodge by dusk. Overnight.

Day 12: Majuli – Mon (180 kms/ 6-7 hrs + 1 hr ferry)
After breakfast transfer to Mon. On arrival, check in at your hotel. Evening at leisure. Dinner & overnight.

Day 13: Mon – Day trip to Longwa Village. (42 kms/ 1 hr – one way)
After breakfast drive to Longwa village with packed lunch. True tradition is seen here where people are still not touched by modern ways. Meet village folk, see their way of life. This is one of the big Konyak villages and on the border ridge between India and Myanmar (Burma). The Angh (king) of Longwa commands about 50 villages from both the side. Evening drive back to Mon. Overnight.

Day 14: Mon Day trip to Hongphui. (15 kms/ 40 mins – one way)
Today after breakfast drive to the Hongphui village to meet the former tattooed headhunters and to listen to their glorious past. Later drive back to your lodge. Overnight.

This district is inhabited by the Konyak tribe, who are seen as the most traditional of the sixteen Naga tribes. They have given up their head-hunting ways, but still lives in a very traditional lifestyle. Konyaks are adapt artisan and skilled craftsman; here you can find excellent woodcarvings, guns and gunpowder, head brushes, necklaces and other bead ornaments, bone carvings, and tribal weapons such as decorated machete, muzzleloader guns and spears.

Day 15: Mon – Dibrugarh (180 kms/ 8 hrs)
After breakfast drive to Dibrugarh. Check into hotels on arrival. Evening at leisure. Overnight.
En-route visit the old capital of the Tai Ahom in Sibsagar district who ruled Assam for 600 years before the arrival of the British into these parts. There are a number of old monuments built by them; the most significant being the huge man made tank ‘Sibsagar’ from which the town got its name. There is a two -storied pavilion built by the rulers to enjoy games and sports and dance and music

Day 16: Dibrugarh airport
After breakfast proceed towards the airport for onward journey.
